One Republican + One Socialist-Anarchist = ??

Mr. Lesbian is a Republican. S/he actually worked to get Mitt Romney elected governor in Massachusetts. We don't talk about that though, and in this way we remain married.

However, I've recently realized that I'm more anarchist than I thought I was.

I worked hard to become a US citizen so that I could vote. But this year, for the first time, I didn't vote in local elections. And I don't believe I'll vote in the elections next year either. This photograph sums up why.

I used to think that at least my one democratic vote wiped out Mr. Lesbian's republican one.

Now I realize that it's pointless. The two-party political system is just a breeding ground for sociopathy. I think I'll just get increasingly more locally subversive.

It is increasingly hard to think my vote matters. However, here in WI, I want to believe that our "No" votes will make a difference this year.

On this, and other social issues, I do think we make a difference

I need to believe it makes a difference for me to vote. Fool that I may be, I refuse to embrace apathy in that regard.

Wordsrock and Paige, I understand your perspectives. Far from being apathetic, I feel very passionately about local politics and community grass-roots organizing. However, on the issues that count, I see elected officials falling far short of what I hope they will do and falling too far under the spell of big business. I aim to continue to organize locally in order to make a real difference. I've been a voter my whole life. Child of trade unionists, red diaper baby, the works. Voting in the UK felt like a far more empowering thing to do than voting over here in the US, and I felt like my vote counter for something over there. I think the two party system, like most other binary systems, is inherently unstable. Please, do continue to vote. I will continue to do what I do best also. More on this in coming months, especially after I move.

Jamie, it's a great pic, isn't it? I took it from another site (and I'm afraid I can't remember which one otherwise I'd give kudos!).
